God’s Wisdom And Human Intellect, Wealth And Pedigree

By: Atty. Marlo T. Cristobal

As l pursue further the knowledge woven into the verses of the Scripture, the more l encounter awe-striking revelations, a kind of sharp enlightenment l never experienced in my rather small world as a lawyer.

l take it that God has fated the elites, the highly intellectuals and educated, and the rich as incapable of truly serving God’s truths and purposes. God provides some pronounced mistrust in the erudite and the mighty and wealthy of our world relative to the pursuit of the fulfillment of God’s will and the triumph of His truths in behalf of humanity that He so much loves. (Please click: 1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9).

In a stroke of irony, God, however, opted to choose the foolish things, the weak things, the unwise by human standards, the uninfluential, the unnoble birth, the lowly and the despised things of this world — to shame the wise and strong and nullify the world philosophies, beliefs and systems. ( Please click: 1 Corinthians 1:25-28, NIV).

By His words, God is conveying the deep wisdom that, by and large, we cannot rely — for the triumph of truth and godly values — on the intellectually superior, the highly educated and talented, the wealthy, the political leaders, the powerful, the socialites and the aristocratic stock. This breed of men have one thing in common: obtrusive pride. They are consumed by a desire to boast of their own loaded merit and status and a thought they are accordingly above their fellowmen whom they suppose hardly worth any consideration or quarter.

Scattered verses of the Scripture clearly corroborate this breed of men falling into this particular divine disfavor in the pursuit of God’s will for truth, justice, integrity, and fairness. ( Please click: Zechariah 8:16; 1John 3:18; lsaiah 1:17; Amos 5:24: Leviticus 19:15; Proverbs 12:22). For instance, God has named “the wise and learned” as hardly able to know His purposes, but He revealed them “to little children.” (Please click: Matthew 11:25, NIV). In a pointed expression, God makes it appear an almost impossibility for a rich man to understand and appreciate His truths — righteousness and Kingdom of God. (Please click: Matthew 19:24, NIV).

Secured with a well-advantaged standing in society, this breed of mankind suffers a built-in spiritual barrier, as it were, that precludes it from floating to the sea surface of divine values. In the more blunt and appropriate language of the Bible, Satan, “the god of this age has blinded the minds of” these personages, “so that they cannot see the light” of these divine values. ( Please click: 2 Corinthians 4:4).

Impelled by these words of the Scripture, l cannot restrain myself again from casting them against the occurrences in our hapless country, particularly its political terrain of dirt and grime, whose underpinning is nothing but complete lies, crime and criminals. The wisdom and indispensability of relating God’s words to man’s state of affairs, especially in our country, l have touched upon in my previous write-ups ( Please click:The Philippines Is Under The Tight Grip Of Satan, February 12, 2026; A Foreign Travel That God Willed, May 1, 2026; and Satan And The Honorable Senator Raffy Tulfo, June 9, 2026 ).

So clear to the eyes, heart and mind that our nation has been reduced to a state where its people are shoved down to their knees, bowed and bloodied, so to speak, as they reel from the untold burden and suffering brought them by a government-sponsored corruption, carried out openly, in epoch-making magnitude that history will annal as one hell of a record, and with a time frame that runs on to run us down. This robbing of the public coffers in a collosal and sustained scale will cause inflation in the country as certain as the rising and setting of the sun, independent or on top of the ill effects on us of the persistent US, Israel and Iran war, and will certainly trigger an overarching deterioration in the country’s economy. The resulting harsh and hard life will live on on the lives of the great mass of the people.

The whole truth and nothing but the truth (and so Heaven cries it loud) of the above horrible scenario is glaring based on the damning documents filed with the courts and on open legislative proceedings that our social media beamed to the entire world. Yet — here comes the rub — many of our elites and highly educated citizens, the captains and owners of big businesses and media platforms, the law professors and deans and other so-called legal luminaries and analysts (excepted here are lawyers representing clients in court by virtue of their sacred office as a lawyers), fail or refuse to see and support or simply emphatize with this blaring truth in any and all controversies that call for this truth , but shockingly refute instead this truth staring them in the face. Is it not shocking, for instance, to witness these elites of society argue emphatically that the plain and simple language of the constitution, “of all the members (24) of the Senate,” is to be construed to mean 22 members?

Such actuations transported me to my experience in my freshman in the College of Law of UP Diliman way back in the late 60s. A recipient of academic honors, our well-loved and highly intelligent professor in Criminal Law suddenly blurted out in serious and intense tone during a class discussion of the issues of a criminal case, “a brilliant justice is a dangerous justice, because he can make a color black, appear white, and a white appear black.” Since l was just a mere babe then in the complex and overreaching world of law, l took the professor’s statement as one only amusing, a reaction that l carried through the years, not realizing then its full impact on the ground. It is only after my law school when l got involved in the practice of law that l was made to realize the full import of my former criminal law professor class utterance, particularly its “dangerous” word portion. I subsequently witnessed firsthand how great legal minds in the government service had a way of coming up with conceivably convincing interpretation of laws via their brilliant extrapolation to serve a favored party’s interest, but a sincere lawyer could only view it simply a deviation from the clear and simple language and truth of the law.

More so in the current dirt and grime state of our politics, reputed legal luminaries argue and highlight their lies in the law, totally ignoring or refusing to expound and proclaim the truth of the law that is screaming to their faces. That they extrapolate “22” in the simple constitutional requirement of “24” members of the Senate as basis for reckoning the number that can impeach a respondent — serves as a fine example of a “dangerous” consequence my former criminal law professor warned us of, but more significantly, echoes handsomely the inherent insulation of the elites of our society from God’s truths. I expect them to run in great number because as abovementioned “the god of this age,” Satan, has blinded people, and he will not be called the god of this world if his control of humanity is not massive, especially over the elites whom God had originally consigned to utter irrelevance in carrying the torch of His truths.

But as always, there are exceptions, and they may be few. These are the elites that miraculously choose to fight the good fight and “to keep the faith.” ( Please click: 2 Timothy 4:7 ) . Together with the God favored class — the ones who will certainly carry the day for us mired in pain and misery– the poor, the great unwashed, the uneducated, the marginalized, the fools, the despised, the weak — the hoi polloi of our country, will, as God indeed wills them, pursue His truths.

Together, with God’s assured help ( Proverbs 3:5; Psalms 46:1,NLT; 1Peter 5:7,NLT ), they will surely live to see the eventual triumph of truth and justice in our brutalized country and people!
