A Prophesy For A Broken Nation

By: Atty. Marlo T. Cristobal

There is no other way we can aptly describe the condition of our beloved country: it has grown into a piece of shit. Pardon my intense metaphor and hyperbole. I just cannot help it. My enormously expressive heart that relentlessly propels me to write cannot simply find a more descriptive words more satieting to it.

The world is a witness how our country has grossly shamed itself to have racked up an unprecedented kind, first ever in its history, of government corruption in magnitude that is utterly mind-boggling, in duration that is totally untrammeled, in perpetration that is absolutely unimpeded, and worst, in perps’ accountability that is horrowingly zero. And these excruciating narratives come to grip with a denouement of irony in its quintessence — delivery of a sharp sting to the heart as the palpably innocents instead are hastily framed as accountable and doggedly persecuted to the hilt. To this horrifying spectacle, Satan and his cohorts, allies and sympathizers from among our countrymen now gratifiedly get
the cue to exclaim, ‘Beautiful’! Echoing this genre of human vileness, the uniquely classic Hollywood movie, “The Godfather” depicts the lawless Mafia character Sonny Corleone laughingly taunted ‘beautiful,’ his brother Michael’s swollen face that a very corrupt New York police captain dealt it the night before with a barreling whopping fist while Michael was being held up both sides by police officers. The Mafia modus operandi, incidentally, has become the template of our current lawless government what with its officially adopted bend-the-law ideology.

As everyone knows and feels, the aforedescribed situation of the country has precipitated a critical crisis in our economy as we are confronted with rapidly rising prices and unemployment and consistently and substantially going down GDP (from 6.4 in 2023 to 4.4 in 2025), all above incidents are based on official monitoring. These are supposed to be the basic indicators of a country’s economic state, and they, for our country, indicate a grim economy that kills the hope, dignity and lives of million Filipinos, resulting in a much more destruction for them than the 6 million Jews’, Hitler ordered killed literally, had dealt them.

It is no wonder then that under these economic indicators, it is thus reported that no new industries or growth areas developed, poverty rate hit a record low of 9.7 percent, the peso weakened to an all-time low P62-per-dollar exchange, the stock market fell below 6000, investments domestic and direct foreign sharply went down, and the national government’s debt has ballooned to a record high of P19.07 trillon(!) by June 2026 (spawning an unprecedented level for the last 20 years of debt-to-GDP ratio at 65.2 percent).

This level of economy we are grappling with simply means we are in deep shit. Again pardon my strong terms, these being the only terms that can measure up to my heart’s content and can summon perhaps our consciousness on the need to raise the battle cry for justice. Let no one miss that it was our bad politicians and bureaucrats that brought us to this nation’s catastrophe.

I cannot find a perfectly fitting description for this unique breed of politicians, a genuinely apt attribution that can comfort my grumbling heart. Some months back, a close friend, a law practicing lawyer and head of a Makati based law firm, texted me his reaction to my writings complimenting me, saying that l am an ultimate “wordsmith.” But l find my being a supposed “wordsmith” challenged by these special kind of politicians, for l cannot conceive of a flawless or exact word that fits them. Sorry to fail my friend.

But l find some solace resorting to words in the vernacular that may serve the purpose of a perfect description of these bad and ugly politicians — mga baboy sila. Binababoy nila ang batas natin. Binababoy ang taong bayan. Binababoy ang gobyerno natin. Binababoy ang bayan natin.

A god believer is bound to solemnly hold in his heart the question why in God’s wise permissive will our country has sunk this low and ended up with a supremely damaged people, financially and psychologically wise? Even their glimmer of hope in the persons of A Few Good Men, our few good politicians and citizens, is effectively shut out through an open, atrocious bending of the law.

A superficial analysis of our situation will always end up with the usual expectation of judgment of divine will that there is hell to pay for this heinous lawlessness and debauchery in government. Certainly there will be as the histories of men or nations or both, glut in the lesson that there is justice in the end — right here on earth — not only in Heaven that irresponsible or ignorant christians would claim. (Please click Proverbs 11:31).

I am convinced that there is a wiser or deeper divine plan for our country to soar high from its deep mess. I think that its rock bottom disaster is just a prelude to its prophesied achieving of a great spiritual heights. As if to say there is no other way to go but up, a turnabout either via human resolve or divine intervention, to me more of the latter because of a divine prophesy based on, in my view, the clear language and spirit of the verses of the Scripture.

Is there any basis indeed for such assertions? The Scripture provides the answer.

We must recall that mainstream lsraelites have been rejecting from the beginning Jesus Christ, both His divinity and prophethood, they only believe in the Father as the only God and revere Moses as their acknowledged Prophet. (Please refer to click John 1:10-11, NIV, John 5:45-47, and many other similar verses spread over in the Bible). For which reason, Jesus removed the Kingdom of God from lsrael (Please click Matthew 21:43) and commissioned the Apostle Paul to establish instead the Kingdom of God among the Gentiles, the non-lsraelites, the people in other countries. (Please refer to and click Acts 9:15, 22:21, Galatians 1:15-16). In pursuance of this particularly momentous spiritual episode, it is not surprising then that an old prophesy that dates back in the old testament times says there is a country in the East where the sun rises, and a “People in the islands of the sea,” (Please click Isaiah 24:15, NCV) on whom the Kingdom of God will be built that they will glorify( in the terms of another biblical version, “on the islands of the sea glorify ye the name of the Lord God of Israel” – Please click Isaiah 24:15, WYC), which is the very kingdom taken away from the Israelites and “given to a people who will produce its fruit.” (Please click Matthew 21:42-43).

There is only one country that comprises islands, in fact thousands of lslands, which the prophesy specifically identifies — our very own country the Philippines, because it is the only archipelagic country, that is, an expanse of sea filled with many islands, in the East.

We should see soon consequently our deliverance from a national agony that is unprecedented in degree, as we anticipate the fulfillment of this divine prophesy in our country. If as l said no way to go at this point of our consummate national tragedy but up, this prophecy offers this route.

When righteousness and God-fearing people that the Kingdom of God breeds for certain, eventually take the reign of government then we the people of the Philippines can have high hopes becoming absolutely happy, prosperous and contended.(Please click Proverbs 29:2).

Let us expedite the fulfillment of the prophesy. In any elections or similar events let us put up henceforth leaders who are God-fearing and throw out from governance the consummate thieves and liars and their champions whom Satan, the Scripture makes very clear and authentic (Please click: 2 Corinthians 4:4; John 8:44; 1Timothy 5:15), has hopelessly blinded, clawed to his side, and fathered!
